Kadlekai Parshe.. @ namma bengaluru

Life's another sunday.. Just attended a wedding and we took Bull temple road on the way back.. It was the eve of Karthika Somavar (last monday of Karthika month).. The heaps of groundnuts on the road spoke enough to let the people know that one of great festivals at Bangalore called "Kadlekai Parshe" (Groundnut Fair) was on. This fair is not just one among the great festivals but also one among the oldest annual events.
The fair has its history.. The Bull temple area was earlier a village called "Sunkenahalli" where groundnuts were grown. Strangely every year before the harvest, the crop would get destroyed at night and villagers suspected that a bull strayed into the fields. They started pelting stones at the animal. However, the villagers came to know that it was Lord Shiva who came in the form of a Bull to keep a watch over the fields. Villagers who realised their mistake decided to make up by dedicating the first groundnut crop to the bull.... Every year the Bull temple area is dressed with groundnuts during this auspicious day of last Karthik Somvar.
Many farmers and traders put up their stall during this two day festival.

These days additional food items like groundnut masala, mixture, cotton candy, Sweet candy, juice, ice creams would also delight the visitors.

You would also witness varieties of accesories like necklace, rubber bands, ear rings, dolls, idols, ceramics, rangoli stencils, kitchen accessories, colorful artificial flowers and many more items.

There are fun fairs attached.. Ring gamble, merry go round, gaint wheel, Baloons, soap bubbles are exciting hopstops for the kids..

A visit to the Dodda Ganapathi and Bull temple leaves a note of heritage Bangalore.

Traditional India comes alive in such festivals...
Incredible INDIA..:-)
